2016 Silver Market Trends

Silver is prized primarily for its dual role as a monetary asset as well as an important industrial metal utilized in a wide-range of existing and growing applications. Factors driving the silver market include supply and demand fundamentals, global economic performance, geopolitical issues, interest rates, currency fluctuations and investor sentiment, among others. Silver Bullion Coins on Allocation at Major...

Retail investors in recent months have seized the opportunity to significantly increase their holdings of silver bullion coins and, to a lesser extent, bars. Due to strong demand, the U.S. Mint, the Royal Canadian Mint, Australia’s Perth Mint, the Austrian Mint and the British Royal Mint have put their silver bullion coins on allocation, where the volume of distribution of coins is controlled due to bottlenecks in the manufacturing process. In the aftermath of the latest breakout of the Greek crisis, Europeans across the continent, not just in Greece (even though with capital controls, potential deposit confiscation and currency devaluation they would have benefited by far the most), scrambled to buy physical gold and silver.

New technology using silver may hold key to...

Silver has long been considered for the advantages it offers in electronic devices. Because of its conductive properties, it is efficient and also stays cool. But manufacturers have often needed high temperatures in the processes they use to make the devices, adding to their cost and complexity, and making them unsuitable for use on some substrates, such as plastics that might melt or papers that might burn.

One Of The World's Largest Silver Miners...

It has long been known to silver market watchers that when it comes to the price of paper silver, there has long been a chronic and extremely concentrated shorting presence at the Comex, one which the CFTC has persistently refused to address even though it consistently surpasses the proposed limits on derivative positions. Now, at long last, a Canadian silver miner, First Majestic Silver Corp., has decided to take the CFTC to task.

Silver Mine Supply Is Running Out of Steam

After 12 straight years of gains, global silver production is expected to fall in 2015 as lower prices take a toll. Silver mine production rose 5% in 2014 to reach 877.5 million ounces, the 12th successive gain and a new record, according to the World Silver Survey, published by industry lobby group The Silver Institute and metals consultancy Thomson Reuters GFMS.

U.S. Mint American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin...

The U.S. Mint announced that 2014 sales of American Eagle Silver Bullion coins reached 44,006,000 ounces. The robust sales performance was primarily driven by a resurgence of demand in the fourth quarter last year. To that point, December sales of the American Eagles Silver Bullion coins were up 104% year-on-year.
