The Metals:
Gold saw a slight gain at $1663.86 in Asia before it fell back to as low as $1645.30 in late morning New York trade, but it then rallied back higher in afternoon trade and ended with a loss of just 0.18%.Silver slipped to as low as $31.634 before it also rallied back higher in afternoon trade and ended with a gain of 0.59%.
Euro gold rose to about €1249, platinum lost $10.70 to $1623.30, and copper gained 2 cents to about $3.81.
Gold and silver equities fell almost 2% by midday, but they then rallied back higher in afternoon trade and ended with modest gains.

Oil fell and treasuries rose on disappointing jobs data that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P lower for most of trade, but a late session rally left the major indices near unchanged by the close.
The U.S. dollar index traded mixed as the euro fell on worries about Spain’s budget and the yen rose on demand linked to the end of Japan's financial year.
Among the big names making news in the market today were EBay, Apple, Nest Buy, and JetBlue.
