The Metals:

 

Gold edged up to $1654.28 in Asia before it fell back to $1637.78 at about 9AM EST, but it then bounced back higher in New York and ended with a loss of just 0.66%.Silver slipped to as low as $31.35 before it also rallied back higher in late trade and ended with a loss of 0.41%.

 

Euro gold fell to about €1250, platinum lost $8.50 to $1572, and copper fell slightly to about $3.63.

 

Gold and silver equities fell about 1% by midday and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Tomorrow at 8:30AM EST brings Initial Jobless Claims for 4/14 expected at 375,00 and at 10AM are Existing Home Sales for March expected at 4,620,000, Leading Indicators for March expected at 0.2%, and the Philadelphia Fed for April expected at 10.3.

Oil remained lower after the Energy Information Administration reported that crude inventories rose 3.9 million barrels, gasoline inventories fell 3.7 million barrels, and distillates fell 2.9 million barrels.

 

The U.S. dollar index rose in early trade as the euro fell ahead of tomorrow’s Spanish bond auction, but both currencies pared back to about unchanged by the close.

 

Treasuries rose as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mostly lower on poor earnings reports and worries about Spain.

 

Among the big names making news in the market today were Halliburton, BlackRock, Nestle, BNY Mellon, SXC Health Solutions and Catalyst Health Solutions, and Bank of America.
