A Voice From the Grave?

May 02, 2019

The news that Bart Chilton, the former commissioner of the CFTC, suddenly passed away was truly sad but also shocking, so much so that some were given to fabricating conspiracy-type explanations. Chilton certainly had a larger than life persona and many came to appreciate his colorful pronouncements, enthusiasm and willingness to respond to just about everyone who contacted him – qualities quite rare in a regulator. I learned this first-hand very early on when I started communicating with…

More Trouble in Mexico: Second Largest Silver Mine Suspended Operations

May 01, 2019

In just a little more than a week after the mighty Newmont-Goldcorp merger was finalized, the company suspended operations of its largest gold-silver mine in Mexico. The Penasquito Mine, which produced more than a 500,000 ounces of gold and 25 million ounces of silver in a single year, has been dealing with a blockade of its operations since March 27th. The blockade was started due to issues with the local community in regards to water supply concerns and problems with a trucking contractor…

Silver Market Alert: Powerful Bullish Setup Takes Shape

May 01, 2019

Commercial hedgers and bullion banks (i.e., “smart money”) in the silver futures market have significantly trimmed their short positions over the past couple weeks – a bullish development. While their net positioning isn’t yet at an extreme, it is more favorable than not for a price rally to commence in the near future. Of course, neither futures traders nor chart patterns are 100% reliable. Nor do they have any particular implications for where prices may be headed years from now.

No one in authority helped the monetary metals cause as much as Bart Chilton did

April 29, 2019

While the former member of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Bart Chilton, disappointed some monetary metals investors, he was a hero to GATA for several reasons. First, he forced the commission to take public testimony from GATA Chairman Bill Murphy and GATA Director Adrian Douglas at the commission's much-publicized hearing on the monetary metals markets in March 2010. This brought national attention to our issue. Second, he repeatedly gave credence in public to complaints…

If Silver Could Talk: What She Told Me When I Wrote to Her

April 25, 2019

Jeff Clark, Senior Analyst, GoldSilver  I wrote to silver last week, and she answered back. I'd like to share our correspondence with you…Dear Silver,I’m a big fan. You offer so many important benefits to an investor, and at such a low price. You’re a permanent store of value. You’re nobody else’s liability, so I know when I buy you, I’m not relying on anyone else to live up to their end of the bargain in a crisis. You are available in sizes that make you affordable for everyone and have…

Silver Sentiment: Is It (Your) Friend or Foe?

April 24, 2019

Silver is building up a head of steam for its next big run. India and China's buying continues to increase, even as several big silver miners fight declining production. Don't be fooled by the market's negative sentiment. Stay in the Game, and take one more cast. Sell a little on the way up.

A Special Message at Easter from the Precious Metals Sector...

April 23, 2019

Silver has been a dull market for the past couple of months, yet as we will see the pattern that has evolved in recent weeks is anything but bearish. On the 1-year chart we can really see what is going on. Back last December silver broke out of a fine Double Bottom formation and ran up quickly but the advance turned out to be modest and by late February it had fizzled out and it started reacting back again and last Monday made a new low. However, the rate of decline has been decelerating…

The Annual Silver Surveys

April 22, 2019

Yes, I know that we have been in this same setup on past occasions too numerous to count and each and every time JPMorgan has added to its silver short position, causing the rally to be capped and eventually unwound. And yes, I know I have repeated my refrain on each and every past setup. And I do so again today, knowing full well that it can go either way. But I also know it is what can be called an asymmetrical equation. That’s a fancy term for saying that on the next rally, silver can go up…
