The Metals:

 

Gold chopped around near unchanged and ended with a loss of 0.09%. Silver slipped to as low as $14.106 and ended with a loss of 0.28%.

 

Euro gold rose to about €979, platinum lost $2 to $852, and copper climbed slightly to about $2.08.

 

Gold and silver equities rose about 1% in the first half hour of trade and remained near that level for most of the day, but they then fell back off in the last half hour of trade and ended near unchanged.

Oil continued to fall on rising output out of OPEC.

 

The U.S. dollar index bounced back from yesterday’s notable losses.

 

Treasuries fell as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose on optimism that the US economy can handle an interest rate hike expected from the fed next week.

 

Among the big names making news in the market today were Twitter, Bank of America, Glencore, Third Point, Chipotle, and VW.
